Award-winning development
Townmead, a development of 158 homes
off Wandsworth Bridge Road, is the best social housing development
in the country.
At the national Affordable Housing
Awards on Thursday 04 September, judges decided it was the best
Registered Social Landlord-led large development and gave the award
to its developer Shepherds Bush Housing Group
(SBHG).
SBHG's Director of Development and
Sales Paula Fance said: "Housing is about so much more than bricks
and mortar. At Townmead we have created a small community in the
heart of Fulham.
"As well as homes built to the
highest possible standard, Townmead has facilities such as a
tenants' hall which creates a sense of community. More than 100
residents attended a Neighbours' Day we held in the summer. For
many, this was a chance to meet people who live a few doors away
from them for the first time."
Townmead offers 90 homes for rent
and 68 for shared ownership. Its courtyard takes visitors away from
the hustle and bustle of Fulham. It also offers an underground car
park, landscape gardens and a ball court. The development includes
Dreams and furniture store Maison Coloniale. A kitchen manufacturer
plans to take the third commercial unit.
Kelway House, a development of 50
homes on North End Road, was also shortlisted for the Best
Regeneration Project.
The award was presented by Channel 4
presenter George Clarke at an event attended by hundreds of members
of the housing industry.
